“Why did you want to become a cop?” He questioned.
“I guess I wanted to help people. I wanted to serve justice to the people who think they can get away with whatever they want. I want to be able to change the world and make a difference in other peoples lives… giving families their lives back if someone they loved was taken from them. I guess I know what it feels like to have someone you love get ripped away from you, and I want to keep people from experiencing that same hurt. I know how long it eats at your heart, and soul, and I want to keep people safe from something like that… Sir.” I answered my voice never wavering from its normal tone. I was proud of myself for keeping as cool as I did when I mentioned my own involvement with what I wanted to become.
He smiled at my response, and fired another question at me. “If you had the chance to go back and change what happened in your past would you go back and change it?”
“No, I wouldn’t, because those experiences had shaped me into this person that I am today. I wouldn’t change a minute that flew past me because those experiences are the ones that drive me to help others, so they don’t fall into the same things I’ve come from. I want to make sure people don’t have to be afraid of those times that get a little rough, because those are the times that test who we are. Those times get us to think about life a little differently, and show us that the world doesn’t look out for only us. It shows us that the world is a much bigger place than some of us realized it to be.” I responded meaning every word as deeply as I felt those words to be in my heart.
“I think that’s all I need to hear!” He stood up with a proud smile on his face, reaching out his hand to shake mine. I instantly stood up, and reached out my hand to shake his out-stretched one. I was scared of what he was thinking, and in my head I was thinking about the worst thing that could happen right now.
